Trip North

So I had the occasion to travel up north to the rose town. And I had the chance to visit three brewpubs/pubs.

1- Roots -A great little brewpub. It is all organic beers. Hey Organic beers are great. But the beers are good. A chocolate habanero stout!! Great stout choco flavor with a tingle of habanero on the lips. So good. It is a place that if I live near, I would drink like a fish all the time. It is not a huge place, but it felt like a nice pub. It was a shame I didn't bring the back any in the growler to my wife (nitro doesn't last or travel)

2-Laurelwood - I evidently went to the new location. I only had a taste of the one beer and a bit of food. But it didn't have a great feel to it. It felt less like a family pub and more like a business. The spaceship stout was one of the most unimpressive stouts I have had in a while.

3-Oakbottom - not a great new, shiny pub, making a spectacular beers, but a great local pub. I must have driven by 20 taverns, bars, grills etc. The oakbottom was a tiny place but a great typical portland feel. Friendly weirdos.

The Pain

Sorry, have been busy being unemployed and looking for work since April, which means I only have time for beer not blogging. But now I have a second.
I sadly had to take my empty keg back to the distributor. We may move, so a fully operational keg-o-rator stands empty, well not empty the few beers that are aging and mixers for the whiskey are still in there. The last keg, Roots Organic Imperial Stout, was a great beer. And I hate to admit it, it was good warm (like Big Sky Brewing's Moose Drool). Full of rich and dark flavor. It's only drawback is the high price for a 1/6th of keg (5.5 gallons), when I can get Deschutes for almost half the price.
Beers of the Season:

Raspberry Honey-Spanish Peaks. Which I also have to point out the Mike is awesome. I sent a simple email telling him how much I like his beer and he surprised me.

Raspberry Brown - Lost Coast. I love a 22 of it crisp flavor, not too sugary, not overbearing.

Kolsh - Deschutes Brewery. I loved the flavor, straight from the source.

IPA -Wild River Brewing. Just When I thought that the beer season would leave me with out a favorite. I gambled and was overjoyed with the results.

If you don't know I am not a IPA, summer beer fan, as much as I am a Stout, Porter fan.
More later.
Have a great day and a pint. it is time for MNF and a 22 of Raspberry Brown.
