Blackberry Porter

Local favorite:
Wild River Brewing - Blackberry Porter. A rich and dark flavor. You can't taste the blackberry until the end. The blackberry comes across as smooth, not sugary or tart. Served at a slight chill above room temperature to allow the full body. I found myself getting another pint and getting a growler for later.

So good that, running out of beer last night (well not really, I didn't want to drink the camping beer Coors or the Abyss that I am saving) I drive to minmart look at the "beer selection" get disgusted and leave. I realize I have growler in the car and the pub is as close as the minmart. So good the wife likes it. Note to self keep a growler in the car! To bad they only make limited amounts of the good beers. (Schwarts- brewed once ever three years)

Also went to the local Harvest Fest. Winners? no, other than Ninkasi bottling their stout. Klamath Basin's Butt Crack Brown the closest thing to a dark and the best beer there. It's not just the name. Good flavor and hop.

Also John Barleycorn Barleywine style Ale was a surprise good taste too, from Mad Rive Brewing. I have had the other beers and not fan. This ale wasn't all alcohol, or raisiny (frackin hate raisin). It was smooth and tasty. Spicey and tingley.

Guest Post

Dear Church of Beer,

I recently made a pilgrimage to the Belmont Station. Seeking higher enlightenment on IPA's I purchased a mixed six pack. My first lesson came from Avery Brewing Co.'s IPA of Boulder Colorado. The liturgy of the label made the bottle appealing. Acknowledging, the history of the IPA, created a greater link to the beer for me. The taste was light and sweet. Not overly hoppy, the beer was smooth and great for hot days. I recommend the internal administering of this holy water.

Dear Church of Beer,

Tonight while observing the holy rite of Monday Night Football, I consumed the second IPA. Here is my testimony. I sinned. I misread the bottle. I thought I purchased an IPA from the Laughing Dog Brewing of Ponderay, Idaho. On close examination of the bottle, I had selected a Pale Ale. Not wishing ill of any beer, I tried the Pale Ale. When poured into a glass, I was shocked at it's odd, reddish hue. The taste of beer was like apples, sour apples. The more I drank of the beer, the more I disliked the taste. It wasn't a Pale Ale. It wasn't a red. I will forsake this brew in the future.

Broken Rake

Pyramid- Seasonal Amber = Broken Rake.
In a 22 oz. bottle. I say this the top tow Amber's in a bottle. MacTarnahans is the my favorite bottled Amber. Why? I am not an Amber person, but enjoy them from time to time. The flavor is great. The aroma is mild but enticing. The hops complement the beer, but provide only moderate hints.

I can only truly await fall and winter beers,
