Tasting of the Week
#1-Gonzo Imperial Porter by Flying Dog Brewing-I am reviewing this one first for two reason, one I just opened it and it is the best of the three. This beer has what you are looking for if you like stouts and porters. Sure it is made by flying dog, who are hit or miss, but they try. This beer is great malt flavor and roasty odor and flavor. I opened it and was worried about too much alcohol (7.5%) over the flavor but it evens out well.
#2-Tangerine Wheat Beer- Lost Coast Brewing- I know, I know a Tangerine Beer? Why would anyone buy this? The MIL found it at a Liquor Barn in California and brought it to share. It is great! If I can find it local again. The tangerine and wheat compliment each other well. Almost like a mandarin hefe (which are hard to do right). The tangerine smell is sweet and inviting without being sugary or sour. A could drink of this all summer.
#3-Double Black Stout with Coffee - Redhook Brewing-I had the most excitement about this beer when I saw it in the new Fred Meyer Beer section (MUCH Improved Beer Section). The names is great Double Black Stout with Coffee! If it only lived up the name. It wasn't very dark. It wasn't very stout and the coffee flavor was hard to detect. The 7% alcohol is even hard to detect and may be obscuring the other flavors. Sadly I hoped for more.
The church has now relocated to a eastern location. So all members be advised. Out of the fog into the high desert.
